OMG, guys, I finally made it to Village Vanguard today, and my heart just about exploded! I was not even planning to blog, but when I saw this display, I HAD to capture the moment. It was pure chaos, but the most KAWAII chaos ever.
The entire display felt like a fever dream of my teenage years, merging my all-time favorite Sanrio characters with the ultimate peak Gyaru (Japanese gal) aesthetic!
Looking at the first photo, this hand-drawn POP card is absolutely iconic—it perfectly captures that bold, fun attitude of the style. Look closely at the bottom row (yes, I bought one!)—those are actual Hello Kitty health sandals (キティパ)! For me, seeing those is such a specific memory of the 2010s. It takes me right back to the days when I lived for magazines like Popteen and egg. Back then, I aspired to that lifestyle so much, and honestly, as an adult now, I still admire that fearless Gyaru energy.
I spent a good thirty minutes just in this one corner, torn between My Melody’s tan skin vibes or Hello Kitty’s classic leopard print.
